The experience was so rewarding and gratifying that
he continued to learn, grow and master his craft. The impact of this
position is the result of one obedient man answering a personal call
to empower youth to become responsible, committed and productive members
of their families and communities. Additionally, his passion is to
promote healthy decision making through positive reinforcement and
the continuity of a familial setting and lifestyle. This passion led
him to Hampton, Virginia in 1996 to further his pursuit of happiness
and fulfillment personally and professionally.
Upon arrival to Virginia, Mr. Olds was employed as a unit supervisor
for The Pines Residential Treatment Facility in Portsmouth, Virginia.
He was charged with positively impacting the lives of youth in a secure
residential setting designed to rehabilitate children through positive
reinforcement, conflict resolution, anger management and healthy decision
making. This position allowed him to hone is craft in the area of
facilitating life skill groups that fostered a positive environment.
Youth between the ages of 12 to 18 had the opportunity learn from
a man who played a major role in providing, structure, discipline,
nurture, support, lots of fun and planned activities that encouraged
and promoted community service, peer mentoring, leadership skills
and wise decision-making. In addition, Mr. Olds continued to perfect
his craft of affecting the lives of troubled youth at Newport News
Juvenile Detention Center as a correctional officer and several other
residential and day treatment youth facilities in the states of Virginia
